Perhaps my parents should have named me
Alice,
after the girl who went through the glass of
looking.
Would have been more appropriate
for a
lass who often ventured down rabbit holes where
reason
was elusive, yet, they named me Carol ~ 'a joyous song
to sing.'
Laura, at dverse poets, has prompted us to write a poem of 10 lines with each 'even' line having only 2 syllables. The even lines should convey a little poem in their own right. The rest of the lines are without any particular format.
Here's the link: The Poetry of Names
Being named after song isn't all bad. I can also see you as curious Alice.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lisa! :D
DeleteI especially like your closing lines and your mini-poem within!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jennifer! :D
DeleteCuriouser and curiouser, indeed. I have a younger sister Carol, ‘a joyous song to sing’ because her birthday is twelve days before Christmas. Whereas we would both have chosen Alice. I love the internal poem!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kim! Curiously we were both of like mind for this poetry prompt. ;D
DeleteI didn't know the meaning of the name Carol so thanks for that. My late sister was a Carol too and I am doing a sort of memoir in 26(ish) objects for this year's A to Z Challenge and i just wrote a brief piece om Carol so I will have to include this nugget...
ReplyDeleteYou're very welcome, Frewin55! The name Carol is not common these modern days but was in the 1950's and 1960's.
Deletea joyous WaltMarie - no real regrets for Alice and a great mini poem from the evens
