An open window caught my eye,
held me fast when I did try
to seize the day and fly away
this open window bid me stay.
I wrestled hard to break on free
to see beyond the timid me
for freedom fought is freedom won
yet to my head there was no gun.
You can do it, said my heart
it's up to you when you shall start.
Seize the day and don't look back
you'll find your way to stay on track.
With that I moved and flew on through
the open window and oh the view;
new vistas opened wide my eyes
with fresh insight on every rise.
Dora, at dverse poets, has prompted us to write a poem alluding to a window of some kind.
Here's the link: Poetry Windows
I so enjoyed the figurative use of the open window, Carol, as an invitation to freedom and discovery. Enjoyed too your effective use of rhythm and rhyme to propel the movement towards "carpe diem."
ReplyDeleteThank you, Dora and thank you for the prompt! It was a great prompt to write to.
DeleteThere is not much recognition indoors. Nice job!
ReplyDelete🙂
Thank you, Vaccinius!
DeleteI love your great messing here. We must make the choice to move beyond looking out to moving into the real world! Well done.
DeleteThank you kindly, Dwight!
DeleteProcrastination is something I deal with everyday, so much to do but these open windows are enticing.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's having the courage to explore new ideas/things etc. :D
DeleteYour poem resonates with me, Carol. I love open windows and looking through windows, and these days I find it hard to seize the day and get out there in the world. Your final stanza gives me hope.
ReplyDeleteThe first step is always done with a little bit of trepidation I find. Then the second step is slightly easier and so on and so forth. For me, comfort zones are safe, but they don't take me far as to new connections and experiences. However, I'm trying, and succeeding. ;D
DeleteSo ein schönes Bild und schöne Worte, Danke
ReplyDeleteUmmmm, sorry, but could you translate please? :D I appreciate you commenting anyway. I think Danke is thanks(?)
DeleteThe window through which we escape, a prisoner's view (not uncommon)
ReplyDeleteCould be a prisoner's view or perhaps a comfort zone. :D
Delete"Seize the day and don't look back" ... I will take this with me. Thank you🙏🏽❤️
ReplyDeleteGlad it resonated with you! :D
